This Monster Prom is fun and good, but I have some gripes with this one… First off, I’ll state that, once again, this game has great funny writing and interesting unique characters/love interests, as every Monster Prom does. In terms of writing and characters, this game does a good job and follows the Monster Prom format. It has every Monster Prom love interest combined into this game, and I think that’s cool. The gameplay, however, is a very drastic change to what we expect from Monster Prom. Instead of a simple static place with multiple locations, this game takes place on a roadtrip where you go from place to place. This game mechanic is cool and lends itself to be more of a resource managing game than a visual novel, so this game definitely feels different as opposed to the last two games. What I will say is that love interests seem like… secondary in this game? Like there’s a lot more shenanigans and funny scenes but the love interest side of the game is very hidden and hard to execute. Albeit, this game has the most love interests in any of the Monster Prom games, but they feel very short and unimportant. Like, the entire game is following Scott and Polly’s antics and the only time you can really start a love interest is by strategically using the bus stops and answering correctly in brief but intimate conversations with the love interests. Monster Prom 1 and 2 was all about the journey on trying to woo your love interests and having shenanigans and situations revolve around the love interest. Monster Prom Roadtrip just.. doesn’t do that. And I think that’s a downgrade compared to the other games. That’s not to say this game is bad, far from it. I just feel like this deviated too much and it’s not what makes Monster Prom enjoyable to me. There isn’t enough content revolving around the love interests and the resource managing can get a bit tedious. I still had a good time, but I feel like I don’t like this compared to Monster Prom 1 and 2. It’ll get a 7/10
